Pergolas of classic or modern design

The Helios Shelter or 'sun trap'. A multi curved enclosure that makes the ooccupants feel protected but not entrapped. 5metres in diameter and 2.5 metres in height this structure can be used as a focal point or as somewhere to sit. As a 'hard structure or as a support for climbing plants.

Our classical design for a pergola

The 'Lantern Pergola', the frame creates a nice covereed dining area and also is robust enough to be tile hung for a more weatherproof building.

A pergola of minimalist design.

'The Orb' was built for the Marshalls Show Garden at Chelsea 2008. It created a focal point and the sunburst deck gave a vantage point to view the garden.

This is a 20metre diameter circular pergola, it is of sufficient radius that you can walk and talk with your neighbour without realising your are constantly turning.

We make a range of gazebos, arbours lychgates and Bus Shelters. We are able to make this to match or harmonise with the surrounding architecture. Sometimes as copies sometimes as interpretations.

The lych gate is a resting place between the mortal and temporal worlds. The one illustrated in West Haddon has space either side of the central pathway to house a bench seat, giving shelter to graveyard visitors during inclement weather.

English Garden Carpentry have a number of designs for bus shelters. These are completely built in the workshop and delivered on a crane assisted lorry onto a pre-prepared foundation pad.

We have a number of designs for pavilions by renowned UK architects; Robert Adam, Sunand Prasad, Joanna van Heyningen and Richard Murphy. We also have many ideas of our own.

A circular pine lined, insulated summer house with oak floor and curved stable door. Roof of cleft oak shingles.

The side slides and the door opens to create a covered room. The roof cantilevers so no corner support is needed whislt eh roof is dished to drain to the rear.

The sides being doors can be opened on most sides to create a very airy space or with th edoors shut - snug. The roof is supported with a pendant post and umbrella struts. The legs are scissor braced for both stability and decoration. The doors are glazed with 'antique' glass in lead framed fans

Alongside our various heavy wood structures we make some furniture, sculptural objects and have created a few greenhouses with a difference.

We do most of our own metalwork, so this allows us to experiment with one or two ideas - a greenhouse inspired by Joseph Paxton for instance

Needing an eycatching focalpoint for our stand at Chelsea one year we made this double double helix, sawn from solid wood.

Our unique heavy section oak bench with legs joined on with through dovetails. Inscriptions plain or gilded an option.

Solid oak bench (12" x 12"; 300 x 300) with incised lettering - in this case the palindrome 'Are we not drawn onward to new era'.
