Round Buildings

Following an illustration of a small fishing lodge this round house is made from western red cedar poles and planks and thatched with reed. Despite no preservatives it will have a high life expectancy.

An internal view of the pendant and the struts that hold the roof up. Whilst perhaps more than is required they give the space a special atmosphere.

A circular gazebo with doors on six sides. These could open. The roof of cement tiles, to match the main house, is supported on a similar but more formal arrangement of struts as in the previous illustration. The legs are braced with scissor braces and the doors are glazed with a traditionally made fishscale pattern. The paintwork is microporous.

A small garden retreat clad in board and batten, lined internally with pine matchboarding. The roof of cleft oak shingles and the door, curved, in two halves in the manner of a stable door.

A detail of the rafter feet showing the purpose made 'tilt fillet' needed to finish the eaves cleanly
